How to Know God…

1. Realize that you are a sinner.

No matter how good a life we try to live, we still fall miserably short of being a good person.  That is because we are all sinners.  We all fall short of God’s desire for us to be holy.  The Bible says, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10)  “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) Jesus said: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man cometh cometh unto the Father (God) but by me. (John 14:6) We can not become who we are supposed to be without Jesus Christ. Are you willing to agree that nothing you do will get you into Heaven?

2. Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.

The Bible tells us, “But God commendeth (showed) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) This is the Good News, that “God so loved the world…”(John 3:16) that He sent His only Son to die in our place when we least deserved it. Are you willing to acknowledge that Jesus, God’s only son, died for you?

3. Repent of your sin.

The Bible tells us to “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.” (Acts 3:19)  The word repent means to change our direction in life. Instead of running from God, we can run toward Him. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9) Are you willing to admit that your sin separates you from God?

4. Receive Jesus Christ into your life.

Becoming a Christian is not merely believing some creed or going to church on Sunday.  It is having Christ Himself take residence in your life and heart.  Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door (of your life) and knock. (Revelation 3:20) If you will open your heart, He will come in. Are you willing to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior?

If you believe…

If you believe in your heart, and you would like to have a relationship with Christ, simply pray something like: Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner, and that nothing I can do will get me to Heaven. I believe you died for my sins.  Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I confess you as my personal Lord and Savior. Help me now to live for you and not myself. Thank you for saving me.  Amen.

We would love to hear about your decision!

If you just prayed and meant it, Jesus Christ has now taken residence in your heart!  Your decision to follow Christ means God has forgiven you and that you will spend eternity in heaven.  “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” (1 John 5:13) We would love to hear about your decision: Merrill Evangelistic Team*
